In-Depth Review: Nonica
What It Is
A Revit add-in that puts a library of small utilities on one custom ribbon tab, plus an AI Connector that runs a local MCP server so an assistant such as Claude can query and edit the open model by calling pre-built Revit tools.
Who It's For
BIM managers and Revit users at firms carrying a stack of separate add-ins, and teams that want to try an AI assistant against a live model without writing their own integration.
Why It Matters
The AI Connector takes a different approach from the obvious one. Instead of having a language model write and run code against your model, it exposes about fifty pre-built, tested Revit tools that the assistant calls, and edits land inside Revit's own undo system. That trades the unlimited range of code generation for results that behave predictably, which is the right trade when the thing being edited is a live project model.
Problem Solved
Two problems, one product. Revit productivity add-ins accumulate until the ribbon is a row of competing tabs, so Nonica consolidates its utilities onto one tab where each user picks which tools appear, and a firm can publish its own Dynamo scripts as ribbon buttons without building an add-in. Separately, connecting an AI assistant to Revit normally means assembling your own chain of MCP server and pyRevit scripts. Nonica ships that as an installer with the tool definitions already written and tested.
Audience Fit
Primary Users:
- BIM Manager
- Architect
- Engineer
- Designer
Ideal Fit:
- Firms running several overlapping Revit productivity add-ins
- Teams with Dynamo scripts they want on the ribbon without add-in development
- Anyone evaluating an AI assistant against Revit without building the integration
- Windows shops on Revit 2020 or later, and 2022 or later for the AI connector
Key Differentiator
The AI calls tested Revit tools rather than generating code
Workflow Fit
Project Phases Covered:
- DD
- CD
- Construction Docs
Where It Plugs In:
Installs into Revit as a ribbon tab. The AI connector runs locally and needs Revit open and running, so there is no headless or offline processing. Model data goes from the workstation directly to your chosen AI provider.
User Experience
Speed: Runs against the open model. The vendor notes that operations scanning every element slow down noticeably on very large projects
Interface: One configurable ribbon tab holding the utilities and the AI connector button, with a chat panel through the connected assistant
Learning Curve: Gentle for the utilities. The AI connector's results depend heavily on how specifically you phrase a request, which the vendor states plainly
Collaboration: Per-seat licensing with firm-wide deployment through an MSI the vendor provides
Integrations: Revit 2020 to 2027 on Windows, with the AI connector on Revit 2022 and later. Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT Work, GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Wraps user Dynamo scripts as ribbon buttons.
Bonus Insight
The privacy architecture is genuinely good and needs one caveat. Nonica states that model data, prompts, and outputs go straight from your machine to your chosen AI provider and that none of it passes through or is stored on Nonica servers, which is better than most tools in this category. But that means the confidentiality question moves rather than disappearing: whatever your firm has agreed with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Microsoft is the agreement covering your project models, and Nonica's policy says so explicitly. Check that enterprise agreement before pointing this at client work. Three gaps to weigh. There is no SOC 2, no ISO 27001, and no data processing agreement, and the only terms document on the site governs the affiliate program under United States law, which does not match a Barcelona company. There is no software licence agreement at all. The ADA and accessibility checks are an assistant reasoning over geometry you hand it, not a codified rule set, so do not present them as code compliance. And several of the vendor's own numbers disagree across its pages, including two different Pro prices, three user counts, and inconsistent tool counts, while the Anthropic official integration claim appears only on Nonica's own properties. Against that, this is a two-founder Spanish company with five years of continuous releases on the Autodesk App Store and an unusually honest published list of what the AI connector cannot do, including that it cannot create complex geometry such as a custom staircase through conversation.
