When to Choose Procore

  • --You want a single platform for project management, financials, and field operations
  • --Your firm needs robust financial tools (change orders, invoicing, budget tracking)
  • --You value vendor independence and an open API for integrations
  • --You are a general contractor or specialty contractor managing multiple trades
  • --Your team needs unlimited user access without per-seat cost increases

When to Choose Autodesk Build

  • --Your firm is already invested in the Autodesk ecosystem (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks)
  • --You need tight integration between design (BIM) and construction workflows
  • --Lower per-user cost fits your budget better than Procore's project-based pricing
  • --You are migrating from BIM 360 and want continuity
  • --Drawing management and sheet comparison are your primary field needs

The PlanGrid Transition

PlanGrid was acquired by Autodesk in 2018 and has been progressively folded into Autodesk Construction Cloud as "Autodesk Build." Firms currently on PlanGrid are being migrated to Autodesk Build, which combines PlanGrid's field management strengths with BIM 360's project management capabilities. If you are evaluating PlanGrid today, you are really evaluating Autodesk Build and the broader ACC platform. Standalone PlanGrid is no longer available for new customers.

The Real-World Decision

The decision between Procore and Autodesk Build often comes down to whether your firm wants a best-in-class standalone construction platform or prefers to consolidate within the Autodesk ecosystem. Procore excels when your primary needs are comprehensive project management and financial controls, especially for firms running many projects simultaneously. Autodesk Build makes more sense when your design and construction teams are already using Autodesk tools and you want seamless data flow from BIM to field. Cost structure also matters -- Procore's unlimited-user model benefits large teams, while Autodesk Build's per-seat pricing can be more economical for smaller crews.
