What is Submittal?

A submittal is the documentation a contractor provides to prove that what they intend to install matches the design — product data, shop drawings, samples, and mockups. The design team reviews and approves submittals before materials are ordered or work proceeds.

In practice

Submittal logs run to thousands of items on large projects. AI tools now extract submittal requirements from specs automatically and pre-check submissions against them, cutting one of construction administration's most tedious workflows.
