Construction & Field

What is Change Order?

A change order is a formal, priced modification to the construction contract — added scope, deleted work, or changed conditions. It adjusts cost, schedule, or both, and requires agreement between owner and contractor.

In practice

Change orders are where document problems become money: scope gaps, drawing conflicts, and unclear specs surface here. The precon AI wave (drawing review, contract review, bid leveling) is largely aimed at preventing them.
